The Project

This section of the project is scheduled to be done in 2025. As part of the planned work, a segment, 800 metres from Highway 2, extending to just west of Range Road 255 will be reconstructed and paved.

The original alignment was moved west due to Alberta Transportation's planned interchange project for Highway 2 and Cardiff Road/Township Road 554. This provincial project will begin in 2026.

The Scope of Work

The scope of work includes grading and re-establishing drainage ditches, replacing centreline and approach culverts, constructing the subgrade, granular base, and asphalt concrete pavement, as well as constructing residential and farm approaches. It also includes the construction of two intersections: Township Road 554 with Range Road 254, and Township Road 554 with Range Road 255. In addition, existing traffic signs and related roadway appurtenances will be replaced to meet current standards.

What This Means to You

You can expect full reconstruction of the road from approximately 800 metres west of Highway 2 to 800 metres west of Range Road 255, including improvements to drainage, culverts, pavement structure, and driveway approaches. These upgrades will enhance road safety, driving comfort, and drainage performance. Temporary traffic delays, detours, and limited access to properties may occur during construction; however, one lane will remain open at all times. Please follow posted signs and exercise caution while traveling through the work zone.

Project Updates

The project has reached substantial completion with the installation of pavement markings and traffic signs.

The only remaining item is topsoil dressing and seeding, which will be completed this week.

The construction completion inspection is scheduled for the first week of September.

The project is nearly complete, with pavement markings now in place. The final touches—like traffic signs, road markers, and other features—have been delayed by wet weather but will be finished once conditions are dry enough.

The project has reached substantial completion with the installation of pavement markings. Remaining items, including the installation of traffic signs, delineators, and other off-road components, will be completed later this week.

The second layer of asphalt is currently being placed weather permitting. Next tasks include the final roadway line painting.

The base layer of asphalt is done, the final paving will be done the week of August 5. The road is now fully open to regular traffic.

A full road closure will be in effect on Township Road 554 from Highway 2 west to Range Road 260 to facilitate ongoing construction. Local residents living along this section will retain access to their properties throughout the project.
